Never been to Brighton - it is a faded echo of it's former glory. The streets are not paved with gold but they could do with a clean. Love the fairground on the pier.

The Seven Stones, in Lower Town had my pint of beer waiting for me when they saw me walking up the hill. The first time I went to St.Martins there was no pub!

There are three main settlements on the island - Higher Town, Middle Town and Lower Town - in addition to a number of scattered farms and cottages, with a total population (2001 census) of 142.

The island has one hotel, St Martin's On The Isle, and one pub, The Seven Stones, in Lower Town. A guesthouse is located in Higher Town, and one campsite, between Lower Town and Middle Town is also present. There are quays at Higher Town (the Higher Town Quay, used at high tide) and at Lower Town (the Hotel Quay, used at low tide). A bakery, St. Martins Bakery, is located at Higher Town.

To the north, St Martin's is joined by a tidal causeway to White Island.

If it's true that our species is alone in the world, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little

Not sure how to follow these comments but...With each individual possessing a unique pattern of fine, dark spots (or light spots on a dark background in some variants), they vary in colour from brownish black to tan or grey; underparts are generally lighter. The body and flippers are short, with a proportionately large, rounded head. The nostrils appear distinctively V-shaped; as with other true seals, there is no ear flap, or pinna. A relatively large (for a seal) ear canal may be visible behind the eye. Including the head and flippers, they may reach an adult length of 1.85 meters (6.1 ft) and a weight of 55 to 168 kg (120 to 370 lb).[2] Females are generally smaller than males.

A blog post on why seals are better than valium http://bit.ly/dDr7WU

It was a cloudless day, with a light breeze. We stood on the cliff tops, looking down at the cerulean water lapping the treacherous rocks. And then we saw one - a shiny black nose peeping out of the water. First one ... then three ... then a grand total of six. They weren't doing anything, our seals. Just lying on their backs, being. Happy. Blissful. Contented.
