Curating the West Buckland Festival exhibition

It is with great pleasure I am pleased to announce that I am curating the exhibition at the West Buckland Exhibition for 2010. This event is supported by Lady Margaret Fortescue and The Countess of Arran

The Gallery‘ 2010

Drawing  above by Peter Bright

During the festival
The Gallery exhibition will enable visitors to view and in some cases buy works of art by local Devon artists. The Gallery will be in St Peter’s Church, West Buckland and will be open during the festival period.

The aim of the The Gallery exhibition is to enable and promote selected, amateur and professional artist living within the dispersed communities of North Devon and beyond. Past exhibitions have received critical acclaim and have been remarkably successful for artists and visitors. Diversity has been the success of these exhibitions, with entries ranging from textiles, painting, carving, printmaking and ceramics etc.

The objects in this exhibition have been selected by Peter Bright. A full list of exhibiting artists will be published as soon as possible.

West Buckland Festival is a festival of music, entertainment and leisure, held in a small village on the edge of Exmoor. This year’s festival featured more than a dozen events between 9th and 12th September 2010.

Wedding Anniversary

Today is our 21st wedding anniversary – I thought I would push the boat out and bought Ronnie a fridge magnet to celebrate (times are hard).

Resources

Creating images is all a question of resources.

Art Exhibition – Peter Bright

Broomhill Art Hotel, Sculpture Gardens, Art Gallery and Restaurant

Throughout June • Wed to Sun • 11:00-15:30

In the Gallery – Free entry

Peter Bright presents ‘Topiary for Beginners’. Creating images is balancing on the knife edge that teeters between success and failure. A brushstroke out of place is like cutting the beak off a privet peacock, it takes time for it to grow back and reshape. Peter revisits his compositional ideas, formed in the late 70’s, to discover how his skills have ‘matured’.

From the Broomhill Website:

We have more events taking place this year than ever before, from art exhibitions, poetry evenings, festivals, and good food fairs, to world-class Jazz concerts, a variety to entertain a mixture of tastes. We hope you will join us to enjoy the delights in store. We are pleased to be a part of the fantastic North Devon Festival again this year.

France trip

Just returned back from France. The time was divided between Paris and Rennes. In 1979 my work was exhibited in this city.

It is impossible for me not to visit Cancale when I am in Brittany. Cancale lies along the coast to the east of Saint-Malo. It is a picturesque fishing village popular with visitors, many of whom are drawn by its reputation as the “oyster capital” of Brittany. There is an oyster farm their which is well worth visiting. Though Cancale is  a small coastal town, it is well served by a large number of restaurants, many specialising in seafood. When not eating one can sit and watch the bustle of this busy little town with many stalls selling crustaceans of all types.

Eugène Feyen painted Cancale and the inhabitants with the oyster-picking Cancalaises for several decades around 1865–1908. Vincent van Gogh wrote that “Eugène Feyen is one of the few painters who pictures intimate modern life as it is really, and does not turn it into fashion plates”.

I always like, when painting or making music, to hover on the edge of my comfort zone. In life I prefer to stay well within my limitations, however my fear of heights had to be overcome by being in charge of 28 young people who were climbing the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Another boundary has been crossed!
