Skindred – Live – Carling Academy (Bristol)

I was going to go and see Skindred but I managed to damage my back so I sent my 13 year old son instead. His review is below:

On October the 13th Skindred played at the Carling Academy in Bristol. I had been waiting for this gig for weeks, and my wait was rewarded. They were absolutely amazing, their front man, Benji Webbe is probably the best front man ever, he’s always making jokes and his singing is brilliant, with his Jamaican/Welsh accent. Their songs are a mixture between reggae and heavy metal, sounds weird, but it works really well, they had the whole Academy jumping up and down and singing along. Recently, they released a new album called “Shark Bites and Dog Fights” they played 2 tracks of 8 on that album, their cover version of “Electric Avenue” originally done by Eddie Grant and “Invincible”. I hadn’t heard the album before but I was impressed and bought it afterward at the venue.

The support band “Carnivool” was very good, when they first came on I just thought “uh oh” because their front man looked very strange, with glasses, a very geeky-looking buttoned up shirt and had the demeanor of a stoned meerkat. But he surprised us all because he had a very strong singing voice and their music was really good.

About peter

'Death by Sushi' Fish can kill me. When I was very small (maybe 3 or 4 years old) my grandfather, who lost the sight of one eye from a bullet fired by a German sniper (fortunately not a very good one) during the Battle of the Somme in World War 1, wiped my face with the corner of his apron, an apron he had used to wipe his filleting knife on. He was a grocery shopkeeper who specialized in wet fish.
