Find local businesses

Bench seat
More and more, buyers are looking online for products or services local to them,  a business that is just around the corner always somehow feels safer  than another in the next county and search engines, including Google, are enabling  the client to find local enterprises by including a map of local businesses in search results. Will your clients  find you? Whether you are selling online or off you need to be visible.
  • 86% of consumers use the Internet to find local businesses. (Nielsen NetRatings)
  • 74% of consumers use a search engine to find local retail or services. (Nielsen NetRatings)
  • The use of search tools to find local businesses grew 58% in 2008 to 15.7 billion searches (comScore).

Basic search engine optimisation is still the best way to stake your claim to local markets.
Get into search engines

Search Engine listings are probably the cheapest way to generate website traffic, by-passing the need for a pay for clicks campaign.  There are probably more web pages on the Internet than there are  people in the world and page population is growing at a faster rate  than the world’s population. Even the greatest designed website, advertising the greatest products or services around will not be  discovered if nobody knows it exists! It is written elsewhere that  over 90% of all Internet traffic is generated by Search Engines. To say that it is imperative to get your site listed in Search Engines is  an understatement, survival of your business relies on your website  being found by potential customers when they start searching for  products or services similar to yours.

To be effective, you must be able to find your web site based on  keywords or search terms – which prospective clients may enter into a search box on a Search Engine when looking for your product or service. It is vital Search Engines direct traffic to your website’s  content.

Creating networks that increase sales

Creating networks that increase sales are a vital part of business survival. Everybody is using networks like twitter and Facebook however, the majority of advertising opportunities within these sites are shrinking. These sites are becoming as ineffective as having an advert on a local radio station that has no listeners.

The reason for me saying this is that we have all fought against spam; our cluttered inboxes were an annoying part of our daily routine and a cleanliness became a ritual habit; like cleaning our teeth the more we did it the better things became. Now we are bombarded with ‘twitter spam’. The sex and drug peddlers have migrated to these modes of distribution and ruined these business tools for all of us – install a ‘twitter spam filter’ or close your account.

There are writers and marketing gurus who still swear by  using social Network site – here are a few of my tips:

Don’t Bother –  There are millions of people out there trying to make a fortune from networking sites – this could be another dead end…but here are a couple of ideas below.

Your Profile – First impressions mean everything and presenting a positive profile is the top priority, you need to divulge as much information about yourself as you can to make your ‘friends’ feel comfortable – as though they know you in real life, use your first name and a real profile picture. It is all about creating a confident network, were people have faith in you.

Positivity is better than Negativity –  Be positive about yourself and your brand. Bring new, interesting  and accurate information to blogs and discussion groups. Give quality feedback and try to be helpful to other users – always try to be positive and upbeat. This is possibly the best tip.

Be There – Get noticed. Join all popular networks like facebook, twitter, wordpress, blogger etc. – creating as many different connections as you can is the key to online success. Search through interests to build your social media marketing network.

Brand Image? –  Every word you write affects your brand, followers and ‘quoters’ will dump you if you make a mistake. This strategy might not sell your products but you will come out of the experience as a ‘nice guy’ and you never know you might make a small amount of cash out of it.

Google listing and keyword domination.

Creating new websites is an exciting process but – how long does it take before the enthusiasm wears off and your site becomes a chore or you feel held to ransom by it? Isolated you feel the whole world is against you and the emails with positive leads get less and less and your inbox gets cluttered with SEO companies (I use the term very loosely – many of them are just charlatans simply out to steal your cash) promising page one Google listing and keyword domination. Bullshit. Look back into the history books and find accounts of survival and victory over wars of attrition, then apply the solution to your entrenchment.
The photograph is of the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad. This powerful and impressive monument, which is both above ground and below ground, was built as the focal point of Ploshchad Pobedy (Victory Square) in the early 1970s to commemorate the heroic efforts of the residents of Leningrad and the soldiers on the Leningrad Front to the repel the Nazis in the 900-day Siege of Leningrad during World War II. The Siege of Leningrad was one of the longest, most destructive, and most lethal sieges of major cities in modern history. It isolated the city from almost all supply routes, except those provided by the ‘Road of Life’ across the frozen Lake Ladoga. More than a million civilians died, mainly from starvation.
It is fair to say that the strife of feeling held to siege by your web site – dealing with all the comment spam with its sneaky tactics “You have a great blog here I can’t wait to read your next post” is nothing in comparison to the harsh reality of war.  Learn from history, dig in and plot a counter offensive.

This initiative to create ‘green websites’

Solar Farm Services was formed by local landowners to provide impartial advice relating to all planning and technical matters relating to the installation of Solar PV systems. We will provide our services for any size development, from small domestic roof mounted systems to large scale stand alone developments up to 5 Megawatts.
Solar energy production has been around for a long time but has never been economically viable. Since the introduction of the new Clean Energy incentive (feed in tariff) in April 2010, requiring electricity companies to pay an enhanced price for green electricity, well sited solar installations are now economically attractive. Farmers, landowners and owner-occupiers of large and small buildings can potentially earn a secure long-term income as well as providing on-site electricity needs. In most cases Solar PV has a lower visual and environmental impact than other forms of renewable energy and planning approval is more likely to be obtained
What is a Solar Panel Made of?
Solar cells are primarily made of silicon and do not contain any corrosive materials or moving parts. Silicon makes up 27.7% of the Earth’s crust and is the second most abundant element after oxygen. The silicon wafers’ surfaces are infused with minute amounts of impurities primarily Boron or Phosphorous in order to promote the production of electricity. Other materials used in solar panels are – Outer surface: Glass. Electrical Contacts: palladium, silver, nickel, or copper. Panel Frame: Aluminium.
What is Photovoltaic energy?
Photovoltaic energy is produced when sunlight is converted into energy with the use of solar cells or semiconductors. As long as the solar cells are exposed to light, they will produce photovoltaic energy with a minimum of maintenance. This energy is also environmentally clean, quiet, and safe. The term “photovoltaic” has two parts: photo, a Greek word meaning light, and voltaic, a reference to electrical energy innovator Alessandro Volta.

This initiative to create ‘green websites’ isn’t a marketing ploy; we should encourage responsible environmental practices inside the office and practice them outside the office. Many of our clients feel just as strongly.
