Meta Tags are dead?

What role Meta tags do play in Search engine optimization (SEO)? I think this question can be partly answered by stating – The effectiveness of tags depends on the ever changing processes and criteria search engines use to rank pages.

In the good old days, the keywords tag played a vital role in determining the position of websites in the result pages of all the important search engines. You could stuff, repeat and overkill your keywords tags with important and relevant golden words. You could trick and redirect searches to sites using ‘sexy’ and irrelevant words and phrases, consequently keywords have become useless for searching and quite frankly the sooner keywords disappear from meta tags the better.
However, always use your own keyword phrase(s) in your meta tags in the source code of your web site. Experiment with different words, place them in the tags and wait for a few weeks and then conduct a search on the major search engines to work out the ranking of your web site – then see if your keyword meta tags have been successful in improving your ranking.
The important thing to remember though is that the visible content of your site is the most important search engine optimization weapon in your arsenal. Well written content and text is strategically a far more useful use of your time than messing about with key word tags.

Self Portrait?

Peter Bright @ Broomhill

Went to Broomhill Art Hotel to pick up the unsold paintings from my exhibition. Pleased to say four paintings were sold. I took a couple of  photographs of the paintings left on the wall and discovered I had snapped myself.

Napalm Exmoor National Park

The six landscapes that form of the core of this exhibition were painted from memory. I tried to execute them ‘en plein air’ but it was the gorse season – no sooner was my easel erected than I fell prey to a severe asthma attack. After several puffs of Ventolin I gathered up all my paraphernalia, shoved it into the back of my Landrover and returned to the sterile safety of my own home, where I finished them off. My original idea was to follow the Monet concept and paint the vista at a given time (so the light, shadows etc. are time specific) – but I would be dead by now. So I gave myself a time limit of 90 minutes to complete the six indoors. I’m not a lover of landscape paintings – these images are a reaction to the environment, physical and visual.
In truth I would be happier if Exmoor was concreted over and turned into an out of town shopping complex – I would get more pleasure from the space if it was.

Well my honesty backfired and I have been told to moderate my tone so here goes…
Been an odd week – I have been asked to come out of retirement and play live again (again – I said no last time), I’m not sure this is a good idea – I can’t face rehearsals! I shudder thinking about those road journeys  – forgetting where you have been or stayed. NOPE!
