Old school punk always turns my head – maybe it is because I am still an old punk in spirit. ‘Back to 76’ is a trip back in time when (in the UK ) we were suffering from a painful recession and the Labour Government struggled for much of its time in office with serious economic problems and a precarious and declining majority in the House of Commons. The far right were gaining a foothold and the National Front were marching in the East End of London…..wait a minute, this is happening now in 2009. Who was the twat that said we learn from our mistakes?
This Australian band have a portfolio of music which is diverse but still manages to have a hard edged (post punk) feel; there are twinges of New York circa late ’69 early ’70’s but that was when the underground was at an early peak so this mix sounds perfect to me. Great tracks – give us more…
This is what Chaotic Firing Squad said:
Formed in 1986 in a Post Punk Soup. Very much part of the Melbourne Punk scene supporting Bastard Squad on many occasions. The band for a brief moment got serious and changed their name to Cold Blooded Chaos then again to The Outfit. Most of what you hear is a from the 90s except back to 76 original first recording session original lineup 1986.
