Destination Dawn – Interview

  • It would be fair to say you are a successful Internet music exponent but which track do you think has been your most successful?

My most successful track at the present time has been “Death Angel.” It made the quarter finals on Our Stage in Goth/Industrial Category finishing in 18th place. This song was penned from a tortured, troubled mind. I have thematically throughout life dealt with death of so many of the closest people to me. As a child, I saw my grandmother who lived with us die. As an older teenager, I lost my father. I also suffered the loss of my husband to cancer and was there when he died. I walked together with my mother through the valley of the shadow of death during her year long struggle at the end of her life,

However, the song was born after the terribly traumatic death of a loved one from an accidental overdose from prescribed medications. It was very tragic. Often times I will write when I am sad and troubled. Death when it cuts short a life in this way acts as an enemy and a thief. This person died alone and this song questions what might have happened leading up to his death.

  • How do you divide your time between, making music, podcasting, networking and life?

Well, I can say it is never a dull moment. I never get bored! There are never enough hours in the day to complete the tasks at hand. I also work on many things at the same time, and so many things are in the work stage and their completion is the true challenge. The humorous part is that I do this in everything, not only music. Hence, the free spirit in me tends to drift quite a bit to what is the most intriguing to me at the present time.

  • Who or what has been the biggest influence on your music?

It would be impossible to name only one. God has fulfilled the desires of my heart with a deep-burning passion for music and opened the doors for its expression. My parents’ show business background and great support in all my endeavors built the strong foundation, and my husbands deep love for me reached out by blessing me with my very first recording equipment to capture the songs that were springing forth from my heart. These three would be the major influences on my music.

  • Networks like ReverbNation are helpful in gaining contacts/friends – do you think these networks are vital for the independent artist?

Most definitely! The independent artist does not have the major backing to promote their career. The indie artist must employ every strategy and opportunity available to get their music exposed to the masses. Only then will people be aware of their music. Otherwise it might be left undiscovered. These networks help others to hear the music and also help the artist to connect with other indie artists and people in the music industry. Technology and the internet has been quite a vital aspect for indie artists in today’s music world.

  • Do you have anything exciting happening in the near future?

As long as I have breath and a future, every day is exciting to me! I have several songs on the burner, several podcasts being planned, and more videos waiting to be born. The excitement for me comes from exploring my creativity…but to be more tangible… the release of my completed album “Tainted Twist of Reality” in its entirety for distribution.

About peter

'Death by Sushi' Fish can kill me. When I was very small (maybe 3 or 4 years old) my grandfather, who lost the sight of one eye from a bullet fired by a German sniper (fortunately not a very good one) during the Battle of the Somme in World War 1, wiped my face with the corner of his apron, an apron he had used to wipe his filleting knife on. He was a grocery shopkeeper who specialized in wet fish.
