Tommy Loose – Interview

Below is an email interview with Tommy Loose. All interviews are published unedited.

  • You play live, what has been your best gig?

The best gig so far was probably the Stamford Riverside Festival with my band Smokescreen. ARound 7,000 people attended the day and we were lucky enough to play mainstage at peak time in the evening so that sticks in the mind! Solowise, I recently did a charity gig for Autism with a bunch of other soloists in Spalding which was a very moving event and as I teach autistic children, very relevant to me

  • You also play in other bands, how different is that?

Playing in bands is very different to my solo music, in that a bands music tends to be a series of compromises. 5 people have to agree, wheres with mne, anything goes !

  • How would you describe your music and what has been your biggest influence?

My music (solo) I’d say is quite a range of different styles, but in terms of the acoustic influence I’m a big fan of Don Ross, Andy McKee, Newton Faulkner and Eric Roche. There are so any fantastic players out there it’s impossible to name them all and I see it very much as a race against time to check out as much music as I can! Besides acoustic players, Iron Maiden are a big influence of mine, as are bands such as Pantera, Sabbath, The Allman Brothers band and Lionel Richie (after seeing him live 2 years ago I’ve been hooked;)

  • Have you any exciting plans for the near future?

I’m about to head to University in Coventry to study music compostion and professional practise next month to take a 3 years BA Honours Degree, so that’s fairly high up on my list of exciting thins right now! I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship so I’ll be getting stuck in and seeing where this road takes me

  • How important has the Microsoft sponsorship been to you?

The Microsoft sponsorship has been an amazing thing for me. So far over 1200 people have downloaded my track ‘Together Alone’ and it’s been mind blowing so see the figures rise dayu by day, sometime as much as 100 in 24 hours! my huge thanks goes out to all the awesome people at Microsoft windows, Reverbnation and everyone who has checked out any song by any of the 1001 artists for making it happen!

About peter

'Death by Sushi' Fish can kill me. When I was very small (maybe 3 or 4 years old) my grandfather, who lost the sight of one eye from a bullet fired by a German sniper (fortunately not a very good one) during the Battle of the Somme in World War 1, wiped my face with the corner of his apron, an apron he had used to wipe his filleting knife on. He was a grocery shopkeeper who specialized in wet fish.
