Below is an email interview with Mark Beckwith. All interviews are published unedited.

  • You are involved in or have been involved in several projects (in various roles including manager) could you briefly tell me what these are?

I first played bagpipes at school and we did alot of big gigs ie marching down the centre of Melb, Melb Cup etc. Got to love the performance. 1987 moved away from home and Chaotic Firing Squad formed in my lounge room. At the time this was a concept punk band crude rude to the most extent.I managed them for a while booked them for a gig at Pentridge Prison which they never played late scared; we were young. Those guys had their own energy. Transformed into Cold Blooded Chaos, The Outfit and Global Mantra. Most of CFS now is Global Mantra rebadged but there is new stuff. Formed Hammerhouse 1987 we played 12 gigs. 2nd gig got reviewed by a national Aus music mag who described us as ” tongue in cheek angst ridden rock and roll” We were loving it and broke up.Went to Uni in 1991. Had a track on a student union release CD. At the time I seriously thought I would be a great rock and roll star if the balance of drugs was just right. then to now captivation bland generic techno.

  • Where best do you think you fit in – as creator or mentor?

I am such a lazy creator I chunk and clunk multi track . To a casual listener it sounds like its all there. Dive deeper singular progressions, unexspanded melody lines for most part uninspired generic techno. With that said when the veneer is beleived Poundcore is a good listen. I say this of myself I know I can do better when talking with other artists I hope their is a level of healthy personal crit. Because I will not hold back if I believe they can do better. Creator or Mentor .

  • Which has been the most rewarding project you have been involved in so far?

South Channel is something very important to me. The dump and run mentality of Reverbnation at the point of sale concerns me. The lack of real music fans concerns me. I love music I see the honest good and proud intentions in all artists.

  • What do you see yourself doing (in music) over the next few years and what do you want to build on?

The classic puff and stuff answer to that is / someone asked me that a few years ago and I told them I would be talking to you.

  • What is your next project?

My concentration right now is South Channel. realistic artist pathways. We are not all young. That is a factor. The greastest tracks are never really heard I feel the top end is more now than ever before dominated with hi-class big production fodder except stuff that isnt lol

About peter

'Death by Sushi' Fish can kill me. When I was very small (maybe 3 or 4 years old) my grandfather, who lost the sight of one eye from a bullet fired by a German sniper (fortunately not a very good one) during the Battle of the Somme in World War 1, wiped my face with the corner of his apron, an apron he had used to wipe his filleting knife on. He was a grocery shopkeeper who specialized in wet fish.
