One day exhibition – today

I decided to have an impromptu exhibition – it is so impromptu the people who are coming to visit don’t even know it is an exhibition.

As an artist (well sort of) it is easier to encourage people to look, touch even buy your works of art in a gallery. High Street shopping and gallery purchases are a sensual experience, so how does this work on the Internet?

We are all constantly searching for the next must have object – we read reviews,  visit galleries, go shopping and are sometimes captured by cynical marketing. When friends, neighbors and family show off their latest lifestyle purchase, frantic impulse buying (online) begins – we want the lifestyle but we want it cheaper.

No time for Art, I’m chasing rabbits

I spent the majority of the day yesterday chasing rabbits. The inevitable thing happened – somebody left the cage door open. They had tremendous fun – I swear they were laughing at me.I was at the end of my tether and was getting ready to shoot the critters and put them in the pot – thankfully for all concerned, I managed to out fox the crafty creatures and they are now back in captivity.

I want some boots….maybe rabbit skin boots

Sometimes a little bit of nostalgia does nobody any harm – sadly I remember this when it was released in 1966. I have even got the 45rpm single of it and if my memory is correct the ‘B’ side is ‘The City Never Sleeps At Night’.

Nancy Sinatra was encouraged by Lee Hazlewood to sing the song as if she were a sixteen-year-old girl giving the brush-off to a forty-year-old man. Sinatra’s recording of the song was made with the help of notable Los Angeles session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew. This session included Hal Blaine on drums, Al Casey, Tommy Tedesco, Billy Strange and Mike Deasy on guitars, Ollie Mitchell, Roy Caton and Lew McCreary on horns, Carol Kaye on electric bass, and Chuck Berghofer on double bass.

I’ve spent about a million pounds in Clarks on children’s shoes in the past, but never actually bought a pair for myself. But as I rushed in the other day for a tube of trainer whitener, I spotted these. As a committed boot girl the moment autumn arrives I am clomping around, and these will go with absolutely everything. And the best thing of all? *whispers* – they are incredibly comfortable.

The domestic rabbit, is any of the several varieties of European rabbit that have been domesticated. Male rabbits are called bucks; females are called does. An older term for an adult rabbit is coney.

Drawing Nude

Life drawing is perhaps something every artist must do – not easy and very frustrating but I had a go.

Going back to the basic skills of drawing is an interesting excursion – a journey I’m not sure I will complete. Drawing a life model for the first time in decades was a bit daunting but old tricks and shortcuts were soon remembered and in many respects drawing is a bit like riding a bicycle.

I have begun to draw again

My previous methodology relied on me subcontracting my creativity to either ‘chance’, allowing the medium to take partial control over the finished image or by letting the computer system deal with my creativity in its prescriptive manner – the program has ways of dealing with commands in a very limit way, hacking the software is the only way of producing images that are different from our everyday visual blitzkrieg of imagery…we are subjected to via the Internet, the printed page and video.

Mavericks are prone to under achieving

The word Maverick comes from a 19th century Texas land baron. Sam Maverick decided not to brand his stock; therefore any newborn or unbranded cattle wandering around on the free range could belong to him. Needless to say he was not a popular man.

A ‘Maverick’ is a person who is constantly having ideas and chasing their tails. Beginning projects with an energy that is uncontrollable. Staying up, working through the night. Forgetting to eat, forgetting to have a bath. Generally being self-absorbed in their own little world. ‘Mavericks fly beneath the radar. They possess the freedom to detect the creative vision that can lead to new products or businesses. But no one – in business …..from the chief executive to middle managers …… really wants to acknowledge their existence.’ Mavericks consider their projects to be different and new. ‘By their nature, they are not people who want to be noticed. Their ability to function as mavericks is to have a great deal of independence. They don’t want to get locked into anything.’ However they could revolutionize the Art World, make a computer loop the loop, make air travel safer or maybe run rings around the latest search engine optimization guidelines, getting web pages to number one by bending the rules (without breaking them). Mavericks are generally lateral thinkers and innovators. Mavericks very rarely finish or complete anything and as a result they usually get fired; that’s not really too bothersome, the next innovation/idea is far more interesting. This means that Mavericks are prone to under achieving if left to their own devices.

This definition of a Maverick could quiet easily be the definition of an Artist, Writer or Performer and is a definitional description of a top Search Engine Optimizer. The principal definition of a Maverick is being able to look at things from a different perspective see the other alternative possibilities, use this when planing your website strategy or planning your next work of art.

Background info: 1978: I once had a girlfriend called Anne who wore ‘Charlie’ perfume. Every time we came close I sneezed. I was allergic to her bottled smell…

Methodology

Rediscovering the printing process after nearly 40 years has been an interesting process – disappointingly modern inks are not as rich in color (earthy colors are very plastic like) and modern water-based inks don’t become part of the surface, they … Continue reading ?

Punk design on the web?
