The Age of Reason

From birth to death, it is the stuff in the middle that is sometimes slightly different. To say we are all unique is strictly not true – love, loneliness, disappointment, illness, parenthood (I love my boys) etc. are things we all experience in someway or another. Yes, it is probably true that I have gone through a period of dramatic change and upheaval, however in this state of flux I have entered a period of great transformation and a new beginnings. It is time to re-evaluate – as difficult as the disappointment has been to take, change has created new possibilities that have never been dreamed of before but I am not unique – this shared pathway is what makes us part of a collective. It is most probable that anything you write about on the internet will become a shared emotion, concept, a facebook like or a thought or dream and somebody out there will be thinking, ‘I thought of that ages ago’ – Sin Nature? Surely it is our obligation to do things better and not worry about authorship, we are all guilty of plagiarism, even in our life choices.

So fucking sue me: Yes this is us being aggressive and confrontational, a call to war, used as a response in situations where we are criticised for stealing an artistic, creative idea (or maybe guilty of a sin). Who gives a fuck about the consequences. – we might get a facebook like out of it.

Original sin: Ancestral sin, is the Christian doctrine of humanity’s state of sin resulting from the fall of man, stemming from Adam’s rebellion in the Garden of Eden. This condition has been characterized in many ways, ranging from something as insignificant as a slight deficiency, or a tendency toward sin yet without collective guilt, referred to as a “sin nature”, to something as drastic as total depravity or automatic guilt of all humans through collective guilt. Guilt is a pointless emotion, we all steal (I’ll steal any creative idea if I want to make it mine) lust (I adore your arse) and indirectly murder  – I don’t give a shit about sin (maybe?) so fucking sue me.

The Age of Reason: Being an Investigation of True and Fabulous Theology is a pamphlet, written by a British and American revolutionary Thomas Paine, that challenges institutionalized religion and the legitimacy of the Bible, the central text of Christianity. Published in three parts in 1794, 1795, and 1807, it was a bestseller in the United States, where it caused a short-lived deistic revival. British audiences, however, fearing increased political radicalism as a result of the French Revolution, received it with more hostility. The Age of Reason presents common deistic arguments; for example, it highlights what Paine saw as corruption of the Christian Church and criticizes its efforts to acquire political power. Paine advocates reason in the place of revelation, leading him to reject miracles and to view the Bible as an ordinary piece of literature rather than as a divinely inspired text. It promotes natural religion and argues for the existence of a creator-God.

Grass on a wall Morte Point

Grass on a wall Morte Point (Photo credit: 35mm_photographs)

This is a land of hope, hope and glory, glory boys, glory, glory, hallelujah.

The bells ring out for obedience,
Like a chorus of funeral bells.

The drugged out hippy cries for peace,
And then tries to find his head.

Bloody whores whip them,
Watch them bob and dance.

On the end of a rope,
On the end of a joke.

Any person who calls themselves an #artist should be ashamed of themselves – because they are a #liar.

powerThe only true pursuit for the creative process is the creation of the commodity. There are no such things as art schools, public art and art galleries, they are simply empty vessels containing and perpetuating the (economic) elitist stranglehold on the common man’s freedom to think for himself.

The powerful use art to bludgeon the weak into submission by edifying their wealth with totems and monuments to their self glory. [Read More]

Any person who calls themselves an artist should be ashamed of themselves – because they are a liar.

(Commodity) art is created for and by the wealthy.

Painting has always been dead: Rubber gloves, stolen kisses, pouches of Chinese fresh drinking water, broken dreams, the constant questioning and declassification of what art is and what the content is has lead to this so called crisis in painting (there has always been a crisis in painting) – Painting is dead – the exponents of Conceptual Art tried to destroy the art object but failed – thought and the idea is the object. The primary aims of Conceptual Art in the 1960?s was to carry out a theoretical examination of ‘art’ and through understanding propose ‘concepts as art’, sections of discarded fishing nets strewn across the tourist beach, lovers in the darkness groping for the dark, hands first finding spaces, then they find there mark, my father, my ghost, my hopes and dreams, stinking of rotting carcasses [Read More]

Drawing Nude

Life drawing is perhaps something every artist must do – not easy and very frustrating but I had a go.

Going back to the basic skills of drawing is an interesting excursion – a journey I’m not sure I will complete. Drawing a life model for the first time in decades was a bit daunting but old tricks and shortcuts were soon remembered and in many respects drawing is a bit like riding a bicycle.

I have begun to draw again

My previous methodology relied on me subcontracting my creativity to either ‘chance’, allowing the medium to take partial control over the finished image or by letting the computer system deal with my creativity in its prescriptive manner – the program has ways of dealing with commands in a very limit way, hacking the software is the only way of producing images that are different from our everyday visual blitzkrieg of imagery…we are subjected to via the Internet, the printed page and video.

Mavericks are prone to under achieving

The word Maverick comes from a 19th century Texas land baron. Sam Maverick decided not to brand his stock; therefore any newborn or unbranded cattle wandering around on the free range could belong to him. Needless to say he was not a popular man.

A ‘Maverick’ is a person who is constantly having ideas and chasing their tails. Beginning projects with an energy that is uncontrollable. Staying up, working through the night. Forgetting to eat, forgetting to have a bath. Generally being self-absorbed in their own little world. ‘Mavericks fly beneath the radar. They possess the freedom to detect the creative vision that can lead to new products or businesses. But no one – in business …..from the chief executive to middle managers …… really wants to acknowledge their existence.’ Mavericks consider their projects to be different and new. ‘By their nature, they are not people who want to be noticed. Their ability to function as mavericks is to have a great deal of independence. They don’t want to get locked into anything.’ However they could revolutionize the Art World, make a computer loop the loop, make air travel safer or maybe run rings around the latest search engine optimization guidelines, getting web pages to number one by bending the rules (without breaking them). Mavericks are generally lateral thinkers and innovators. Mavericks very rarely finish or complete anything and as a result they usually get fired; that’s not really too bothersome, the next innovation/idea is far more interesting. This means that Mavericks are prone to under achieving if left to their own devices.

This definition of a Maverick could quiet easily be the definition of an Artist, Writer or Performer and is a definitional description of a top Search Engine Optimizer. The principal definition of a Maverick is being able to look at things from a different perspective see the other alternative possibilities, use this when planing your website strategy or planning your next work of art.

What’s it really like living with creativity?  Look back over the years at the tortured artists, drunken writers and drug-crazed musicians who litter our heritage and you might start to ask the question: is creativity a blessing or a curse? How do people hell-bent on finding their muse cope?  Is it the quest for creative fulfillment that causes mental anguish, or is there an imbalance in the first place?  Can a creative person ever be truly happy as they constantly strive for perfection in their chosen art?  And what is it like living with these two-headed beasts – can they be tamed, or should they be allowed free rein?

Allergy is a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system Allergic reactions occur to normally harmless environmental substances known as allergens; these reactions are acquired, predictable, and rapid. Common allergic reactions include eczema, hives, hay fever, asthma attacks, food allergies, and reactions to the venom of stinging insects such as wasps and bees. I am allergic to creativity – begining and creating new works make me panic and sweat. Creativity is a curse.
